The Summer School organised in July 2007 involved students from Poland and Russia. Its activities were focused on trainings for Polish students (from Gdansk Technical University) and Russian students (from Kaliningrad State Technical University) in the field of theoretical and practicalaspects of conservation works on monuments.
Classes were composed of lectures and practical training. Subjects were:
- Professional ethics in cultural heritage protection;
- The need of interpisciplinary activities in the process of revitalisation, conservation and new architectural adaptation of monuments;
- Threats to cultural heritage in face of free market in managing monuments;
- Advisability of modernisation of a historic object - the analysis of profit and loss;
- Diversity of cultural heritage in Gdansk - a glimpse through the ages;
- Common cultural and artistic roots of Gdansk and Kaliningrad;
- Historic object as a part of historic urban layouts;
- Role of historic greenary landscaping in urban layouts - historical backgroun;
- Historic greenary landscaping - revitalisation and role in modern urban layouts;
- Modern methodology of source research on historic objects;
- Archeological research and its role in defining and interpretation of the history of monuments and urban layouts;
- Conservator' s inventory of historic object and its role in the creation of architectural adaptation in accordance with artistic and historic value of the object;
- Examination of the condition of construstion elements of historic object (wood, stone, brick, ceramics, metal);
- Microbiological threats to historic object (salinity, corrosion) - causes of the threat (natural, brought about by inappropriate use of the object);
- Architectural research and appropriate interpretation of the issues linked to the adaptation of a historic object to its new functions;
- The use of conservator's research results in the proper assessment of the strength of the object's construction.
All together, 150 hours of classes took place within the Summer School - theory, practice and presentations. Qualified architects and conservator's as well as translator assisting the Russian and Polish groups and supporting them in the development of bilingual documents ensured the efficient flow of the Summer School.
After the Sunner School small Polish-Russian student groups jointly worked on the conceptions of the development of the manor and park complex Studzienka. Special forum on the project website served as the communication tool for the students.
